Anyone have any insight on that new PGY-2 open position that just showed up on Residency Swap?

Anyone have any insight on that new PGY-2 open position that just showed up on Residency Swap? < same question also for any other PGY year swap for derm?

< what program is the PGY-2 opening at?

So sorry for infiltrating the spreadsheet, but I could use some real advice. I'm choosing between Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (a subset of Case Western's medcial school) vs Yale School of Medicine. Very interested in derm and really don't think I will swap out. Yale is $100k more expensive. CCLCM is closer to home, has free tuition for all students, and has built in research. Tons of supportive research mentors for CCLCM students, plus they have 3 home programs in derm. Should I go CCLCM or Yale?

#36234d ago

CCLCM is the obvious choice. Cost is so important, you will be well supported, and Yale struggled with derm match this year anyways

Does anyone know how SLOE will work? Is it possible to have any narrative letters?

#36216d ago

Some people who interviewed with me at multiple different programs aren't on the match list at all. What the hell is this broken system

#3620Apr 20

unfortunately, with a <50% match rate and some programs deciding to only take home students, many qualified individuals may not get it. Lots of luck in the process

Matched derm low on my list but the past few weeks I've been learning more about locations I ranked higher and feel confident I landed at the ideal place for me.

Ah yes hopkins deleting any info about them, as per usual

#3617Apr 18

Bring it back plz

Apr 18

It was mostly positive toward Hopkins, idk why they would be the ones to delete it

Apr 19
0

what is the tea about them

Apr 20
0

there's no tea, it was actually just a bunch of people defending Hopkins. idk why someone was so pressed to delete it

[COPIED FROM PRIOR VERS] Is it just me or do Hopkins students not match all that well compared to other peer schools?

Apr 21
0

bro they went 10/12 this year at crazy institutions. yeah their derm deparment is weaker but they matched incredibly well. also hopkins r

Apr 21

Two people in T5s, two more in T10s...pretty solid if u ask me

Apr 21

Hopkins as a med school is very good so the name prob carries despite the derm dpt being not as strong >Also, people have higher priorities than matching at the “top” programs. Who wants to go to Harvard work-horse and live in miserable Boston

Apr 21

Agreed, some folks want to prioritize happiness over prestige and there's nothing wrong with that. Also matching 10 people from a single institution is a huge accomplishment.

Apr 21

some ppl like boston tho

[COPIED FROM PRIOR VERS] Bruh, in what world is UCSF, Northwestern, UCSD, NYU, Southwestern not impressive. I also think it’s impressive that everyone was able to match at other institutions besides Hopkins. It’s prob more impressive than say, CWRU where a bunch of internals stayed

Apr 21
0

Agree, CWRU tends to just match their internals

Apr 21
0

Plus being able to match at some of these CA / NYC programs without aways, crackedd

To anyone about to start a research year fellowship - ASK YOUR PROGRAM TO TALK TO THE CURRENT FELLOW - if they won't let u its a red flag. I just completed the worst year of my life at a program that made me believe they would match me and then didn't, I really wish I could warn the new person coming in how toxic this program is so they know the situation they're walking into

Does anyone have thoughts on the Northwestern advanced rotation? I have the option of advanced or outpatient focused.

#3615Apr 15

personally, loved the outpatient rotation to get to know as many people in the department; also was very hands on so could show work ethic to many people

Has anyone genuinely gotten an away after emailing and expressing interest? Because it seems like everyone does this now? I have emailed so many programs and people and haven't recieved a single response

#3612Apr 14

this doesnt guarentee an away, but is probably the only way to get one

Apr 15
0

definitely not the only way to get one

Apr 17
0

what do you mean

Apr 18
0

was disagreeing with the person on left who said emailing might be the only way to get an away

Apr 19
0

yeah, but what other ways can you get them after applying and not getting any? without emails or connections?

Apr 19
0

n=1 but yes, I sent an email to one of my top places ( they were still showing up on VSLo so I knew they hadn't filled all spots). Got a response to my email and an offer.

Apr 20
0

I emailed last cycle and no one responded but later i got an offer from that place (I also emailed others and got rejected so not sure if it mattered or not but def didn't hurt)
