is there any point in applying to UCLA Harbor and UCLA?

#5856h ago

Does anyone know what their interview rate is for gold signals? No data on residency explorer

guys im finalizing school list right now and thinking why would any of these schools even look at me. I'm just mid all the way through. Not even applying to any top programs.

If your away is after ERAS submission, should you still signal that program gold? They don't necessarily gaurantee an interview invite if you rotate there but they typically extend an interview if they liked you during the away. Not sure if giving them a silver may affect me getting an interview.

When should last day to submit ERAS be? Is there processing delay?

so many ppl I knew last year who were phenomenal candidates didn't match - so scared this year - I honestly was speechless seeing so many people that have worked so hard not achieve their goals - I know Derm is competitive but I honestly don't know what else they could have done, Hoping this year will work out for many of us

is there a list of programs that we can apply to without a signal? (Aka they would still review our app regardless)

Only in our wildest dreams

I find it very interesting that at the Emory info session yesterday, they mentioned they review all applications regardless of signalling. They then said "in our review, we found most of our interviews go to candidates who signal." However, the way they said it made it seem like they still seriously consider your application if you don't signal. I wonder if this association they find with signaling is actually biased, i.e., the candidates with ties to Emory or with stronger mission fits are more inclined to signal (and thus have a higher interview rate).

emory is full of corporate bullshit. look, they have internal candidates that they don't even interview. most of the residents who match are from that pool. the people they interview are just extra candidates that may fill in the gaps if they fall below the internal candidates on the match list. the end.

Several residents at yesterday's session were not from ATL and did not do an away there, interestingly!

The derm who wrote this article also wrote the article titled 'a mentor is not automatically your advocate' and honestly it's good to hear other people further in training who have had similar experiences. It makes me feel like I'm not alone. But Dr. Lowenstein signing the petition to sunset DEI made me so annoyed/upset. There is also a very prominent faculty member at my insitution who signed the same petition who is very similar when it comes to mentorship, giving criticism, and playing with students/trainees careers. Moreso, it's interesting that many faculty members at other institutions know about this faculty member's antics but are not doing anything. I mean what is the APD doing? Writing memos about limiting away rotations and putting the onus on the medical student to be "equitable" when faculty with power like mine or Dr. Lowenstein exist. These faculty members are the ones creating structures of inequity that affect swaths of future physicians. All of this performative bullshit from the APD is so exhausting. Attack the most important problems for the love of God!!! < preach sister

APD recommendations are super inequitable. I support limiting students to 2 aways with home or 3 without, but it needs to be a requirement, not a suggestion. I don't understand why they feel they cannot enforce said requirement.

For LA prelims/TY, plz rank Harbor UCLA, Olive View, USC over the rest. Or don't even consider the rest of the LA prelim/TY. You'll thank me later.

#57816h ago

What about UCLA TY?

12h ago
0

UCLA Reagan doesn't have a TY (unless there's a new one that opened this year..?). Harbor UCLA and UCLA Olive View have prelim years. Culture at Olive view is more friendly than Harbor
